The Tropical Origin of the Piña Colada

The tropical drink has its roots in Puerto Rico, but its spirit lives wherever sun, surf, and palm trees exist. According to legend, Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí mixed coconut, pineapple, and white rum in the early 1800s to boost crew morale. That uplifting, escapist vibe has stuck ever since — which is exactly what you’ll feel with each sip.

Whether you’re lounging at Blue Osa Eco-Resort or blending one at home, a Piña Colada is more than a drink — it’s a tropical state of mind.

So if you’re sitting at home wishing you were at a beach destination like Blue Osa, put on some beachy jams, blend up these five ingredients, and start planning your trip.
