Before we get into the recipe, we want to spotlight one very special ingredient that deserves to be talked about: passion fruit.
This gift from Mother Earth is so beautiful and so unique that it looks like it could be a made up fruit from the movie Avatar. But we have great news, not only is passion fruit real, it’s packed with health benefits!
It contains high levels of vitamin A, which is important for skin, vision, and the immune system. It also contains magnesium which is an important mineral that scientists have linked with decreased stress and anxiety.
Passion fruit is rich in antioxidants, especially Vitamin C, which are compounds that help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body while also reducing cellular stress and inflammation in the body.

But it doesn’t stop there. Passion fruit also has a low glycemic index (GI) value. This means that it does not cause a steep increase in blood sugar after eating it, making it a good option for people with diabetes.

We also like to use Costa Rica’s staple liquor, Cacique, but you can substitue vodka and coconut rum as shown in the video below.

Spicy Passion Fruit Cocktail
From the Kitchen of Blue Osa
4 slices of lemon
4 crushed leaves of fresh mint
1 teaspoon of sugar
½ of one diced jalapeno
2 oz. Cacique (can substitute use 1 oz. of vodka and a splash of coconut rum)
2 oz. passion fruit juice
1 oz. soda water
- Muddle lemon, mint, sugar and jalapeno in the bottom of the glass
- Add Cacique, passion fruit juice, a splash of soda water
- Pour cocktail into a shaker with ice and shake
- Pour shaker into a glass
- Garnish with a sprig of mint or lemon wedge
