Your Yoga Teachers

Nancy Silverman:
Nancy began her yoga journey at the age of 16, practicing yoga as a means of healing injuries caused by competitive dance and years on the field playing soccer. What she discovered was that the practice of yoga was not only a means of maintaining physical fitness, but also helped achieve mental clarity and reduced anxiety. With a passion to share what she had learned, Nancy obtained her 200hr yoga teaching certification in Hatha Yoga in 2012 under the guidance of Allie Hill in Morocco. Her teaching brought her to London, England where for nearly 4 years she taught regular classes and workshops to every demographic from ballerinas to builders. Hungry for more, Nancy spent two months in India in 2015 obtaining her 300hr Ashtanga Yoga certification under the guidance of Kamal Singh and Sunil Sharma.
Now living back in Canada, Nancy teaches full-time in Toronto and leads do-it-yourself Kombucha fermentation workshops. Nancy believes that the practice of yoga should be challenging and growth-oriented, but most of all FUN! She aims to teach a method that is accessible by all ages, levels of fitness and levels of flexibility. She encourages her students to “be brave!” and surprise themselves with how amazing their bodies can be.

Hayley Walkden:
Dr. Hayley Walkden is a Toronto based chiropractor and yoga teacher who has always had a fascination with the human body and its ability to perform both beautiful movements and day-to-day tasks. As a young competitive gymnast, Hayley taught her body skills that required both strength and flexibility. An eventual accumulation of injury brought Hayley to her first chiropractic appointment and shortly after, her first yoga class. Hayley completed her Modo Yoga training in 2008 and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2012. Since then she has opened her own chiropractic practice within Modo Yoga Uptown and has discovered a love for vinyasa yoga. Hayley takes inspiration from teachers like Kathryn Budig, Sean Corn & Meghan Currie. Her yoga classes offer students a chance to challenge themselves and step outside of their comfort zones with mindfulness, grace and integrity. Hayley loves her family, her dogs, functional anatomy, yoga sequencing and handstands.

“I have been practicing yoga internationally for well over a decade. Nancy and Hayley are hands-down among the very best guides I have had the privilege of learning with and from. They are both strong, supportive, playful and nurturing teachers for those seeking to explore new ways and poses safely and without risk of injury. I can’t wait to join them and other participants on this special retreat.”
